To ensure sustainable policy dialogue and advocacy within the decision-making organs of the EAC, EACSOF Kenya Chapter is working with State Department of East African Community Integration and other stakeholders (i.e PSOs, EALGA and other interest groups) to develop and operationalize the NDC and its work plan. The NDC is involved in formulating national priority issues which will inform the RDC’s agenda and eventually the 4th SG’s Forum. The NDC will establish national positions based on the sub-themes of the SG’s Forum in preparation for further negotiations at the Annual SG’s Forum.
The Port CSOs is directly involved in the local level lobby and advocacy focusing on community priorities. Through the four thematic groups (Security, Labour, Natural Resources & Governance), the Port CSOs assists in the baseline survey to identify key priority issues to be used for lobbying and advocacy. The CSOs will engage in quarterly dialogue forums with Port Management and County Government stakeholders separately to identify and address policy gaps on Port Reforms. Quarterly Trilateral consultative forums are used to organized to enable the three parties to engage in monitoring the implementation of the Port Community Charter, assess challenges and best practices as well as hold stakeholders accountable for their prior commitments.
Nairobi, Kenya 30th November to 1st December 2017 – Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) in partnership with EACSOF Kenya organized a regional CSO forum to discuss the role CSOs in ensuring that EAC partner states uphold and implement their regional and national commitments. The meeting brought together CSOs from five EAC
Partner States (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania). The meeting was also graced by UNHCR Regional Office representatives. The forum: Develop an advocacy plan of action (2017-18) for citizenship and nationality within the EA; Established the EAC Coalition of Statelessness to be housed by EACSOF Secretariat (Arusha); Agreed to work with UNHCR to conclude their study on Statelessness which will include support to assist hold national level consultation with actors on statelessness between January and March 2018.; Work with other partners to lobby for adoption of the AU Draft Protocol by 2019.
